TERA Online : BAM dead in 20 seconds

The following videos are a very good example of what is currently wrong with the game, more specifically the “broken” (in my opinion) damage multipliers.

The Sorcerer literally destroys the group monster as if it was a normal sized mob.

I should mention that this is not something you would usually encounter in TERA while playing it and its in no way representative of TERA’s gameplay.

The Korean player has over and uber buffed his character, with maximum level critical and damage buffs, maximum weapon enchants and on top of that unique items that only few veteran TERA gamers have.

On top of that, the player’s character is level 58, while the monster is 56.

Normally this wouldn’t be something of high importance, however in TERA things are different.

Being higher level than your target gives you an extra % based bonus increase to the damage you do to that target. And yes it sadly applies in PvP too.

I decided to post these two videos, since TERA’s english Aplha Test is about to begin, to highlight what the development team should focus on fixing.

Nobody, ever, should be able to deal absurd amounts of damage.

I don’t know if its fun for others, I personally hate being one, two or three-shotted. Playing a tank, while blocking.

It simply gives you no chance to fight back and makes the game disgusting, pretty much forcing you to quit playing it.

Lets hope the people behind the “westernization” of TERA listen to the community’s legitimate concerns and tweak the game for the better.

Anyway, here’s the videos :

There is a thread about this on the official TERA forums.

You will find it here : https://forum.tera-europe.com/showthread.php?t=22906

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

:O im speechless, he got off so many attacks in that first video… and sorcs have and always will be OP as hell

Dude, check your TSW e-mail, they announced the next beta dates.
I need to know them :)

  • Dawn

    700,246 damage….

I admit I do like a little bit of overkill, but that is way too much. I hope they fix that.

  • Anonymous

wow…thats….wow…the Devs have much Stuff to do on this one… Oo

  • MrGrimord

I will never get used of this kind of animations…. and the “little girl” screams. How can you enjoy that ??

    • Animaniac

that’s also something i find pretty annoying. i’ve played aion and had to turn the character voice stuff on each spell/attack off. i do however not like highly stylized anime or comic games at all. more into the direct simple or gritty realistic kind of stuff.

for whoever likes it, more power to you ;)

  • Wegotstory

    Thanks again Betacake and tester.

    Tera is looking pretty sweet.

Most dps classes are unbalanced and can do way to much damage, compared to what the other classes can do at their chosen roles. But everyone is used to it, and since you work as a team it’s all good in the end.

And there’s always the twinking, pvp gear, and end game stuff that puts that unbalance even more over the top.

But this dps is so over the top, even for a mage or rogue type. It’s almost like your watching one of those GM cheat’s for the sake of expediency in the video deals.

Maybe this guy is just showing you why American’s think Korean games are a grind. Apparently we Westerners need to realize in those games, it’s not a grind, when you can kill the mob or 100 of his friends in one shot. And solo bosses in less than a minute. Sure you need 10x the exp, but you can kill 25% faster if you really know how to min/max.

These games are designed for the ultimate min/maxers. If your not your just a noob. Apparently this just showed us what this class can do in the hands of a good player ;)

Grind is grind. Breaking the game is not proper game design. You’re over-thinking it big time.

      • 1nsane

You sir are wrong, the game is NOT a grind IT IS NOT A GRIND, Let me refer you to my original post:

        https://forum.tera-europe.com/showthread.php?t=13747

which was a lot of patches ago, since then the game has already been made MORE EASY.
So stop spreading lies, if you dont have a clue what you are on about!

My comment wasn’t in response to Tera. I have no earthly idea how Tera plays. I was talking about Korean MMOs in general. The guy I was replying to, on the other hand, was referring to Tera.

I disagreed with the gentleman’s reasoning that grind is excused because Min/Maxers can do it quicker. Grind is still grind.

So, yeah, chill out bro. Reading comprehension. My post doesn’t make sense unless to consider it a direct response to the statement given.

        • Fnagger

          It’s a grind.

          • Anonymous

            Actually, its not.

            Stop trolling.

          • Sd

The Korean version is quite grindy once you get to about level 20. It may be a symptom of me struggling to find quests but you either have to group or grind.

The repeatable quests are quite nice though, you can complete them up to 10 times before you need to go turn them in, then turn it in 10 times.

To say the Korean version isn’t a grind though is a bit of a misnomer in my opinion. There are quests but at some point you will have to grind but it certainly wasn’t as bad as Aion.

Grinding was actually quite fun in Tera though because the combat makes it fun. You make it into a challenge to see how many mobs you can pull at once and not die. Depends on the mob a lot of the times on how many you could pull but for one repeatable I was pulling 60-80 mobs at once which was about 10 packs of mobs.

          • Fnyldepop

            It’s a troll grind then? :P

        • Yolandgingras

So… killing the same mob for couple hours so you can get a level to then be able to repeat the same instance over and over to get to the next questing area is not a grind ?

You good sir need to reread the definition of the word. Killing the same mobs over and over IS A GRIND. Even if it takes you “only 10-15 hrs” to get from 48 to 50 by killing stuff on the beach IT IS A GRIND TO DO THIS.

          • Anonymous

10 to 15 hours for completing the last two levels before reaching the level cap is too much?

What the hell is wrong with you?

That’s 3-4 days of normal gameplay sessions, definitely not a grind whatsoever.

Also, you don’t have to do repeatables or do the same instance over and over again, or even kill the same mobs a thousand times in order to level.

I said it before, everytime we moved to a new map zone (non-instanced btw) we had to abort several quests from the diary.

That’s because we were leveling too fast and had to move up to higher level areas and quest hubs.

I would compare leveling from 1 to 50 in TERA to be the equivalent with the following :

Level 1 to 35 in AION

            Level 1 to 40 in Lineage 2

Trust me, when i say its not a grind, it simply isn’t. Its an inarguable fact.

          • DrakeReinz

I REALLY freaking hope getting from 1-50 is not as easy as 1-35 in Aion… It took me approximately 4 days to get from 1-35 there >.> Although now when the game comes out in NA there will be atleast another 50-58 and maybe a 50-60 to go through which I then HOPE takes about as long as from 35-50 to get to. I could level from 1-50 in Aion in about 2 weeks, it definately wasn’t as much of a grind as some people say. This is what I consider a grind, the amount of time it gets you to reach max level, not how tedious the quests or content is. So if I can make it to max level in 3-4 weeks, that is not a grind to me. However if it takes 3 months to get to max level that is when I get annoyed, like with Flyff.

First time around it took the bunch of us who played TERA KR about a month to reach 50.

Its all about instances, questing and farming repeatables. (if you wanna level up fast)

My friend and I made alts one day because we outleveled everyone and had to wait for them in order to be able to complete the group quests / instances / storyline.

So he made a Priest and I made a Sorc.

It took us about a day or two for level 26. Slightly hardcore mode, with 8-9 hours of sleep, food etc.

Simply put, the game is not a grind whatsoever. At least in terms of leveling up. And nowadays its even faster since they boosted the levels we used to have a hard time going past during the first month of the game.

Although to be perfectly honest, I’m not sure how long it takes for level 60. I never played when the expansion came out.

  • jonas

I don’t think this game is gonna do well at all in EU.
Although graphics look nice, how can one get his friends to play this instead of Swtor or GW2?
No chance in hell this is gonna succeed.
Another game that should’ve came out in 2007/08.
How stupid can a game company be in launching a title like this against massively popular ones?

    • iika

Quickly said : I tried this game 2 days before Diablo III release, and canceled my D3 purchase. It’s just dope. Seriously, real ARPGs puts the fun to another level… So, I guess it’s totally worth launching no matter when.
