GTA V : Debut Trailer

RockStar Games just released the very first trailer for their next installment of the epic series, Grand Theft Auto, GTA V.

Enjoy !

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

    Whoa, Mamma! – Johnny Bravo

  • Rax

Looks like the dude from GTA 3 has grown older. Also seems like CJ from San Andreas was there. I have a feeling they’re going to try and bring back as many characters from previous games as possible and weave them into a story – which is pretty cool :)

  • agreewithwhatajoke

these games are retarded. Good for them for selling the same thing 4 times over.

    gta 2 for life!

    • Rax

*pats your head and gives you a cookie*

    • GZA

lol clearly you don’t play very many video games. Why are people so retarded?

    • Asfash

Can’t tell if troll or stupid

    • GattsuSword

If this where a Call of Duty post i would agree with you. These games are far from retarded they are brilliant fun.

  • Ygritte

I’m a little underwhelmed by the trailer. I’ve really enjoyed the previous games, and though San Andreas and GTV IV had some game play issues, they had excellent writing. I’m sure the game will be decent enough, but it does look a little too same-y. I sort of expected them to come up with a fresher spin on the series. Perhaps they did, but it sure doesn’t show in this trailer. I’m sure it’ll have great humour and an eclectic cast of characters like the previous games, but I do hope there’s more to the game, and not just another cute but ultimately bothersome feature like food/working out in San Andreas and the socializing of GTA IV (and I sincerely hope we get Las Venturas and San Fierro again in the game)

Yes, I felt a little underwhelmed too.

I’m glad they are bringing the “old school” GTA gameplay back. While Nicko Bellic and I had our fun times, it was mostly frustrating due to memory leaks and other graphical bugs.

GTA IV was the worst of the series imo. As an overall experience, it doesn’t even compete with GTA 2 and the original GTA.

Very limited content lead to getting bored fast, well unless you enjoy driving a car through a virtual city for hours and hours with no real purpose.

Doing the same thing in San Andreas was so much more fun, you had so many options.
Do I tune this car? Should i drive to Los Santos and pick up my homies and do some drive-bys?

I’m also glad they are bringing back jets and motorbikes, i was shocked GTA IV didn’t have any of that in it. I hope they bring back the bicycle too, it was so much fun riding it in San Andreas.

      • Ygritte

I played the PS3 version, so I didn’t have any memory or graphics issues with GTA IV. It did have motorbikes (though handling them was a horrible pain in the ass). But yeah, GTA IV had major issues with the mission progression; advancing through the story was a meandering mess, with too many inconsequential side missions. I really liked the writing for the characters (in my opinion overall a little better than in San Andreas), but San Andreas was by far the superior game. The diverse landscape of San Andreas was sooo much more interesting and fulfilling than virtual New York.

Looks like GTA is getting inspiration from the economic crisis. I love when games depict political landscapes.

True and honest question here: Do you guys think betacake should start narrowing down it’s genres a bit more?
It’s starting to become a bland trailer website with the stuff being posted lately. I’d rather see less udates, but updates that at least have something to do with actual beta footage (leaks).

    • Ygritte

If there’s not much beta footage coming in, I don’t mind more general game-related updates. If it doesn’t interest you, don’t look at it. It’s not like it’s betacake is like “I have all this awesome beta footage, but I’m gonna post an official trailer instead.”

      • Ygritte

Ignore my word jumble there in the last sentence, I just got up… -.-

        • Jon Snow

          You know nothing ;)

          • Ygritte

You know nothing, Jon Snow .. that is my line!

    • Anonymous

I don’t even know what to respond to this.

The two posts just before this trailer are leaks, not sure why you think that way.

While I understand your point of view, more leaks – less official stuff, its far wiser to post something decent than nothing at all.

It could be days before new leaks start rolling in, not only SWTOR, any game.
Look at The Secret World for example.

There was supposed to be a beta test but got canceled, now their forums are empty, no updates, nobody is testing atm.

I don’t think anyone could complain that posting the GTA V trailer as soon as it went live is damaging / wrong / bad / off topic.

Would you rather have updates on Power Rangers online? Or some random Chinese / Korean / Japanese mmo that we will never get to play anyway?

There is a lot of confusion about this and its mainly my fault because i focused a little bit too much on SWTOR during the summer. That was partially due to the large amount of leakers contacting me.

But the website itself was meant to be a website that also posts official news, sometimes those are great too.

Anyway, thank you for your legit complaint, I will definitely take it into consideration.

Ofcourse this is your website and I truly do appreciate what you’re doing. How you’re doing it is also completely your own choice, I’d never underestimate that.

It just seems to me that the way this website started was truer to a certain genre. It catered to a crowd of people looking for beta-leaks and or footage.
I was fine with having to wait for a week but being able to find leaked stuff, or just beta footage when it did come out.
At the moment when seeing regular release trailers or gameplay videos that are being posted on a ton of other videogame websites, it seems that betacake is starting to head into another direction.
To me it just seems that there are enough websites offering a collection of trailers and gameplay footage, like gametrailers. The market for that is pretty much satiated in my opinion.

Again, I’m not complaining against what you’re doing with your own website. It’s yours to control into whatever direction you want.
I’m merely trying to understand what direction this website is actually going in. Because besides the leaks we’re still getting, there is defnitely a difference from how this all started out.

        Dear BetaCake,

I’ve read this complaint one too many times on these forums. Perhaps the best solution is to split the website into two sections so that everyone is happy. One section would be dedicated to “leaks” the other to “news” and perhaps even a third section to “interviews w/ developers.”

This way, no one will see anything they don’t want to because they will be on the section they want to investigate. I believe that compartmentalizing the leaks and the news is a fantastic solution that will appease everyone while simultaneously retaining the integrity of your vision of this website.

I love the work you do here, betacake is one of my most visited websites for news in the gaming world and, for instance… if you hadn’t posted this GTAV announcement trailer then I wouldn’t even know about it. I haven’t seen any news of GTAV anywhere else but here…

        Keep doing what you’re doing.

Thank you for your kind words my friend, I appreciate the encouragement. In fact I need it.

Also, Anonymous, that’s a great suggestion and I will definitely try to make that happen.
I’m going to get this website a new facelift soon, this template is too heavy and the slider at the main page doesn’t work properly so I will look into my options on that.

Thank you all for your feedback.

          • Fonds

Even though I’ve got some comments, I also do love what you’re doing. I check this site out multiple times a day :P
Keep at it man! It’s already great and you’ll continue to improve it, I’m sure!

    what ever happened to wildstar?

    • Anonymous

I expect more info on WildStar next week during G-Star 2011.

Other than that, the last time i heard of it was Paris Games Week (or something) where some guy got to play it and posted a video on youtube.

But its all in french and there was nothing new or important shown, just the basic starter area, so i skipped it.

      • alltheinternetz

im pretty excited for that. Wildstar looks awesome, and who doesnt like steampunk!
so sick of the whole fantasy orcs and goblins axes and bows crap
