TERA Online : Too Late for English Version?

Korean TERA servers merged back in June 2011, now its the second time we hear about servers being merged for this game, this time its TERA Japan which takes the hit. 10 servers will be merged into just 3(!) soon. So the question is, how does this affect the English version of the game?

TERA Japan Server Merges

Is it too late for Frogster and En Masse to finally release the game for the western audiences? The game has already been out for a year in Korea and the western publishers seem to be taking their time translating TERA into English.

Do the recent server merges in Korea and the upcoming server merges in Japan, make you less interested in playing TERA?

Should Frogster and En Masse hurry up the release of TERA EN?

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

This game is toast if it doesn’t release before GW2.

also thinking about that tera was released too early (in korea and maybe also japan) and might have too little real endgame-content atm and so players stop playing already after some months?

at this point of view it might be the right decision by eme/frogster to wait with the release till some more content is available / tera will be closer to the planed server-vs-server-content?!

I know my girlfriend really wants this game – she’ll definitely be sad if there’s no English version. Then again, she can read Japanese so she could probably play that way…. she did with FFXI…

    Not a very good article

      How come?

I played TERA Alpha a couple months ago, it was exactly the same game we played during the CPE earlier this year.

Frogster and EME are being sluggish and I can’t really tell the reason why.

Unless you believe that changing a few armor textures from panties to tiny shorts takes several months to complete.

That was the only difference I could spot.

I have played korean beta and game was really nice with innovative combat system.
It was one year ago !!!! Definitly too slow, and i agree, the only way is a release before GW2.

Personally i feel that the responsible companies (whomever they may actually be, BHS, Frogster or whatever.) has brutalized this game beyond necessary, both contentwise and in translation/”westernization”

Its a shame because ive been hyping the game to tons of people and im just getting less and less intrested as time passes. If the game doesnt even hold a good “free” pvp system they can count my money out of the equation, rather wait and spend it on ArcheAge in that case.

  • The Cyphre

Wait… they are getting rid of the panties?

Yes, the Elin race is getting “censored” or “fixed”. Personally I don’t find them offending per say, however player activity made the whole thing worse.

Imagine recalling to town to turn in quests and stop by the warehouse / broker. Then all of a sudden you meet Loli69, SexyLoli21321, Lolit4, Jailbait, LoliFTW, UnderAgeSex and a whole other bunch of ridiculously named Elins wearing next to nothing.

Yeah, not exactly what I’d call immersion.

So it was decided to remove the underwear from the Elin race and swap them with shorts instead.
Still anime-like, less provocative / downright wrong.

      • The Cyphre

Never underestimate the power of a few asshats to screw everything up for everyone else. Darn it. Oh well. It’s just panties. *weeps*

        • Deioth

The Elins wearing thongs … man the Elin scare me.

          Cheers,

Actually my dear friend Deioth, TERA JP went “retail” a little bit over 5 months ago.

Both the sources you mentioned edited their posts to clarify that and avoid confusion.

TERA JP is merging their servers because most players left due to bots. Don’t you remember all the priest bots we used to find on the second continent?

    • Deioth

Fair shout, I checked JTERA on Hangame’s Japan website but there is an IP block, and using a proxy makes it a nightmare to check the articles so I just rely on the press.

Well what do you know, WTERA will be given much more care than we previously thought. I see this as a good thing because now we are their target costumers and they have to please us (^_^)

      Cheers,
      Deioth

If normal Korean games do great in Korea and Japan but horrible in the west. Wouldn’t it be good news that this game is not doing good in Korea and Japan? This just means the game is probably more based on skill and teamwork, and less about sitting in front of your computer for 100 hours a week.

  • Jamespark730

they just dont have end game content really
after dungeons your done, unless u like unnbalanced pvp

there really is nothing, same problem still. Reason why koreans are leaving
    source: is a korean player

and mr guest~there is alot of grinding with very few story quests in instances
grinding big monsters for exp which everyone farms

Frogster is taking waaaaaaaaay, waaaaaaaaaaay too much time with Tera.
Honestly this game was SUPPOSE to come out in 2009.
It is now 2012 and still no sign of TERA.

Amidst from all the extra editings, expect those edits to be added into your monthly billing for TERA. It’s kinda sad the game is IP blocked in Japan but then again they seem more than satisfied merging servers to avoid auto-bot than to have actual players play online.

  • Smoogle

Now if this game comes out and it’s utter-boring crap ontop of it, be prepared for an early TERA flunk-out. If this happens I will avoid any further games translated/published by En-Mass and/or Frogster.

Although Elins are westernized for Europe/America, it was pretty stupid of En-Mass to lock any forums related to the discussion of the armor-sets or issue ‘bans’ to players before the game even got out!
