The Secret World : Beta ends sooner than planned

Funcom ended the current Beta phase sooner than what was already announced to be the end of February. They apparently keep inviting different groups of people for each test, since the account we were using during December is not being re-invited.

One of the current testers contacted us, to let us know that the current beta phase will end today, Sunday February 12th.

There’s only an announcement for it from a forums administrator and that’s about it.

What do you guys think this means?

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

    NDA will be lifted soon so me’s hoping for open beta.

    Why are people expecting for open beta months and months before release? It’s usually a week before the pre-order headstart begins, or two weeks max. Are people really expecting to get to play the game for free months before release??
    April release is looking doubtful, we don’t even have hint of pre-orders starting, and that’s 3-5 months before release, at minimum. So it’s late May at this point.

    Hopefully ending the previous beta phase early means they’ve ahead of schedule. Also hoping for a beta invite myself…

    Are you sure this is a current announcement? If you read the date, it says “February 12, 2011.” Was this from this year or last year? Or just a mistype?

      Yeah its most likely a typo, the post was made 2 days ago, the tester took a screenshot on demand and mailed it to me.

      def a typo. If you look at the join date of the admin posting it, it says ‘Nov. 2011′.

    Yeah, it’s looking like May 9hopefully early May), they are holding press beta previews and seem to be letting out more information than before so we will see. As for the end of the beta phase, mayhaps the press events have something to do with it? Looking forward to the 25th when they lift the press embargo

    Funcom is known as ‘Failcom’ for a reason. Even when this thing goes live, it’s going to be a massive disappointment for anyone looking forward to it.

      The same goes in the other side … and AO was/still is one of the best out there !

        Age of Conan for the first 20 levels was the best MMORPG I ever played.

        Even now it’s not perfect but it’s huge, has great combat, has pvp, has guild built cities, has cool mounts etc.

        Funcom tries to push the industry forward – sometimes that comes at a cost with buggy releases but at least they aren’t another company doing WoW 2.134

    They never announced that the beta phase will end at the end of February and they also don’t invite different groups for the beta phases. I think you just got banned.
    And I think they closed the servers now, because they will invite the press in the next days and lift then the NDA for press. After that I think they will start the new beta phase.
