DarkFall : 2.0 Artwork and Magic balance

Aventurine is now stepping up their game by posting more frequently about the development process of the already delayed DarkFall 2.0. Latest news include some talk about balancing magic schools, a very much needed change imo.

A lot of work has been done in balancing magic and making the effectiveness of spells make more sense.

The primary factor when determining spell effectiveness is the governing attribute. Intelligence and Wisdom levels will play a major role on how much of an impact you do while casting spells.

The second factor is the actual spell level. Something to note on spell levels is that damage scaling has been redone for all spells. The aim is to have higher tier spells be more useful, even at low levels, than lower tier spells that have been maxed out.

The third factor is the staff type and rank. All staffs have been rebalanced and their rank now plays a more prominent role in the effectiveness of the spells you are casting.

The fourth factor is the level of the magic school with options like intensify following as the fifth and final factor.

Aventurine has also been working on bringing players fresh looking gear (new robe skins at last!) and new utility boats that will most likely increase the chances of naval combat.

They’re adding a few fishing boats and small fast moving boats with the main aim being the smaller guilds, which don’t have the time or enough people to farm the required resources for the larger war-vessels. Some of these new boats also have a cannon on them, mainly to offer some basic defense while retreating to safety. After all, they’re just fishing / transport boats!

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

dead game is dead…why bother…just my opinion

    • BetaCake

Yeah I think its dead too.

However, Aventurine took the brave decision not to pull the plug, but to try and update the game instead. I haven’t seen many developers do that. If you payed attention to general news lately, a couple dozen MMOs are either canceled or have shut down.

I think AV deserves some respect for that.

IMO they should just make it go F2P, many people would come back, and I’m pretty sure doing a system similar to LOTRO would revive the game at least. A lot of people are interested in the type of MMO they have created.

i like the game when i played it, but did not like the grind just so you wouldnt get one handed right away in a pvp fight.

Had some great times in this game I hope it makes a come back

The first weeks of the game gave me the best experiences Ive ever had in an MMO.
Sadly it had too many flaws.
The enormous seemless word is still impressive though, no other MMO has such a large seemless world.

      Mine too.

I was in the Hyperion alliance, member of the Bane clan and I attended the 2000+ people siege back then.

Hands down, the best experience I’ve ever had in an MMORPG in my life. And I’m not exaggerating at all.

Should I mention that the server had about 20k people online at that time and it didn’t lag at all?

But damn, the silly animations and character movement in general totally killed it for me. It just feels so robotic, it’s a total immersion breaker for me.
