Guild Wars 2 : Amazon pre-purchaces don’t count

Guys, this is important. ArenaNet announced via twitter that if you buy the game via Amazon, it doesn’t count as a pre-order. Meaning, no beta keys, no head start, etc..

So please, share this with as many people you know, in case someone thinks they’re all set for release. We don’t want sad gamers, now do we? What could be worse for someone, than finding out the last moment that he didn’t actually pre-order the game and he’s not gonna be getting all the goodies?

Also, link to the twitter post, in case you want to retweet it:

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

    And already im disliking arenanet.

Does this apply to all preorders that arent paid in full, gamestop, bestbuy, walmart.

    • BetaCake

No idea, I think its just Amazon.

Wouldn’t they tell us if other retailers didn’t count as pre-orders too?

      • Kyron 27

If you buy from gamestop they will give you a beta key box when you pay in full your preorder. I think its the same with bestbuy.

This applies to any pre-order, ANY, that is not paid in full. If the pre-order is paid in full in advance, it is a pre-purchase, which is what will get you into the beta weekends.

ANY pre-order that is not paid in full ($5 down or free until delivery etc.) will NOT get into the beta weekends and will ONLY give you a 1-day head start.

That is my understanding, and I believe it to be correct.

  • Giantcrabs

It only applies to online services like Amazon who are sending you a copy because they don’t charge you until it is delivered. That might be how it works, I’m pretty sure most online services don’t charge you until the item is shipped.

  • MrGrimord

So if you pre-order now, you are in a upcoming beta phase ??

  • Spelledarn

You all seem confused about the difference between pre-purchase and pre-order.
UNfortunately, the only cure is to read Arenanet’s information over and over until it penetrates your skulls. ;)

    • BetaCake

      Lmfao so true.

You can’t judge people for it though, most mmo players have English as their secondary language, so you can’t expect them to all know the big difference between the two similar phrases.

Its a good thing ArenaNet stepped up and announced it before everyone started QQing about it all over the place.

      +1 from me.

      • Norton

Well, actually, Betacake, your post is a little confused too… What the tweet is saying is only that it’s not a pre-PURCHASE if you buy from Amazon, meaning no beta access and no 3-day headstart.
It’s still possible that it counts as a pre-ORDER, meaning 1-day headstart – and possibly the added digital thingamabobs, that bit isn’t entirely clear I admit.
In any case, I’m ordering direct from Arenanet, nothing else seems to make any sense ATM…

        • BetaCake

Oh really? I haven’t pre-ordered GW2, so I have no idea which versions gives what.

I will edit the post when I get back gome, to avoid further confusion. Thanks for the clarification.

          • Norton

To be fair, Arenanet haven’t been totally clear yet about the differences.

What is clear is that all the info on https://buy.guildwars2.com/ applies only to buying direct from Arenanet or “selected retailers”… no word yet on who those are, but apparently not Amazon. But in any case this all requires pre-purchase, which means putting the full price down in advance.

Info about a more normal pre-order, where you just put a deposit down and pay the balance on release, isn’t available on their site, it’s dribbled out in interviews and the like. But it seems this will be possible, it will just give fewer benefits.

  • Killuminati

I sure hope they give us a release date before april 10 in this case. It’s one thing to throw down 5 bucks to reserve a copy, it’s another to pay in full for a game that you have no idea when is being released.

  • MrGrimord

I’ll wait before pre ordering the game, I still have concerns about the end-game PVE, and what ANet have on the table in that regard. No raid content is almost a game breaker for me.

Well, I can already tell you ArenaNet is not of fan of multiple player raids. I imagine end game PVE will deal with the dynamic event system. Their push for end game however is WvW. Who knows, you may find out you don’t really need raiding that much after playing it.

    • Guest

It’ll have end-game PvE, it just won’t be of the ‘e-peen’ sorts.

    • Killuminati

I believe they said most of their end-game will be with groups of 5

  • N7

Anyone know if you can pre-purchase on STEAM?

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NTE7NRF7PM2OVYGPYOJGY4527E Aaron

    pre-purchaces?

What Anet is really saying, “We need money now.”
Amazon doesn’t charge you full price for a preorder, but I bet the Anet store does. So they sell half a million copies early, that gives them enough money to potentially finish the game, rather than push out a steaming turd that isn’t quite cooked all the way yet.
Thats my take on it anyways.

  • N1gg3r

Guild wars 2 … epic fail.
    Arenanet looses again

  • Hfhg

    anyone in jet?

  • deags

that’s why you always read things carefully people, don’t blind place orders, it’s pretty evident that unless arenanet specifies a store it doesn’t count.
