DUST 514 : World’s 1st Orbital Strikes Fired

Ladies and gentlemen, CCP made it. They wrote history during Fanfest 2012. Why or how? They fired the world’s first orbital strikes from an Abaddon inside the EvE universe, to the place where a DUST 514 match was undergoing. That’s the first time an MMO player has directly impacted the gameplay of a console player.

That is some serious business right there. As you can see in the video below, the Abaddon was chilling outside the planet’s orbit, waiting for the ground units to call in for support. The EvE pilot loaded up the bombardment modules and once the coordinates came in, he fired towards the ground.

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

Are people in EVE really going to care to do this?

    • BetaCake

As someone who plays EvE on/off, I believe that EvE players will care to do this, mainly for the PvP aspect of it and secondly for the loot/fame.

That Abaddon in the video could easily get ganked, meaning that his team on the ground would have higher chances to fail. So both teams will be not only fighting with ground mercenary units but also at orbit against other pilots.

Controlling planets will be essential for successful corporations, you don’t really wanna have the enemy doing ground operations inside the systems your alliance controls. So you’ll be contracting DUST 514 players to stop the enemy alliance from getting a planetary base inside your area, possibly giving them a way to spy on you.
