Project Copernicus : Environmental Screenshots

Despite all the bad news about 38 Studios lately, someone is still releasing screenshots and artwork from the game. Maybe in hopes of raising interest so publishers give Project Copernicus a chance? Nevertheless, the game looks good in my opinion. What do you think?

Rumors have it that Cpt. BetaCake was once a mere mortal. In human years he would be 28 years old. Nowadays, he finds peace in sharing gaming news and leaks.

Game looks good. Wish someone would pick it and the developer up.

Yeah I hope this doesnt go the way of Stargate Worlds and just colapse never to be seen again. The talent involved deserve it to be completed. Surely the f2p market at least.

Ive no doubt EA or SOE will swoop in and lap it up for next to nothing once they start selling off 38 Studio’s assets so there is a good chance it will be released in some form or other eventually.

Well I believe EA is already listed as the publisher. So if they have not done anything yet they probably won’t now. Any of the ‘western’ companies that have the resources (bethesda/zenimax or activision/blizzard for example) probably won’t pick it up either. SOE is an outside possibility especially if the game has any cross platform potential. I think the most likely possibility would be if one of the big asian publishers got involved. Nexxon and Perfect World Entertainment both have the resources to throw at it. However it is going to largely depend on what the state of Rhode Island demands in return for the IP. I say this because from what I understand 38′s loan agreement reverts control of their assets to the state when they default on the loan. I could be wrong though.

The game is only about 2 years into development most MMOs are 5+, the entire original team has been laid off and with how things ended I can’t see how they would want to go back if 38 got new funding. Right now the MMO market is flooded and is going to be even more with a plethora of titles coming the next 1-3 years.

I just can’t see any major US based publisher dishing out the money it would take to get 38 back running, or buy the IP, then sink more money into 3 more years of development. Maybe if THQ decides they want to get Big Huge back and get into the MMO market, SoE if they want to run another franchise into the ground. If I were to bet on a studio I would say NCSoft West, they have the money and only have 2 MMOs in the pipeline with 1, GW2 coming out soon, and Wildstar still a ways off.

But really this game is vaporware.

With R.A. Salvatore writing for it… I would back it beyond all the way. I love that author, as for the game itself, no real data on the gameplay or anything. I love how it looks and I assume I’d like how it reads along with that. Hopefully it makes it to existence.

taken from Curts own posts on Fires of Heaven board:

EDIT: Copernicus, and as always this is IMO only, will be an amazing MMO, an amazing experience for reasons that I believe MANY MMO players here will find awesome. Some won’t, some of you guys will bitch and will gripe, that’s likely the reason FoH is FoH.
It will NOT be an ability based sand box game, it just won’t. So those of you that want that need not continue following this thread. Apologies if that was what you were hoping for.
It won’t reinvent the wheel in many ways, but I do believe it will introduce some things promised, yet never done, and some things thought un’doable’. It may not be your cup of tea, but I am betting, roughly 40mm of my own money, and crap ton of others, that we will change the MMO space forever.
It will not be a twitched based combat system, it will have classes, it will have things I think MMO players love, and it will do them as well as anyone ever has.
I do believe we will move the genre forward, how much we do will likely be on you, the players, to determine on your own if we did what you had hoped, or did not

Basically he was making another WoW clone. I say good riddance to bad trash.

    • Skiba

Probably an EQ clone, Curt was a massive EQ fan back in the day so this is probably a game that will look like a 2012 MMO but have all the trappings of an MMO released around the early 2000′s. I think there is a market for that type of game but it’s a niche market.

The sooner MMO makers rein in there subscriber ambitions the better, the secret world needs 250k subs to stay profitable and would like to aim for 500k subs, I think that is pretty reasonable and it’s about time people stopped aiming for 10m subs.

  • Anvious

They (studio Director/CEO) said that this game will still be released June 2013 even with the whole company being bankrupt.

I love the zaney art form…it reminds me of WoW but in a good way. Lets hope SoE isnt the one that picks it up. SoE is like the hand of death itself, everything they touch dies.
